The U.S. was once heralded as a great melting pot. But people seeking to immigrate to America today want to bring with them the cultures, languages, laws and customs from the very countries they are escaping. Many come to the U.S. solely for the financial, housing, legal and material benefits.
Nor do I understand why people who fought so long and hard for integration now voluntarily choose segregation — like the Congressional Black Caucus, the University of Maryland Black Students Union, The Great Blacks in Wax Museum, Black Beauty Pageants, the A.M.E. Church, etc.
When an application is to be filled out for anything I don't think they should be allowed to ask race or gender.
We talk of President Barack Obama being the first black president and the possibility of Hillary Clinton being the first woman president, Since when does race or gender make you smarter or better?
And what's with baseball? Every time a non-white player comes to bat the announcers go out of their way to announce his ethnicity and place of birth. Why? Get with it. We're all Americans.
