Don't send $1B to Central America

The Obama administration has a plan to pour $1 billion of U.S. taxpayer money into Central America "to try to slow the flow of unaccompanied minors and other migrants without documentation" to the U.S. ("Democrats press Kerry on $1B Latin aid request," Feb. 25). Just wondering, wouldn't $1 billion be a nice down payment on an effective wall or fence across the southern border of the U.S. that would deter illegal immigrants from easily entering our country?

Obama administration officials said the money could improve law enforcement, reduce corruption, strengthen government services and bolster weak economies in Central American countries. That's exactly what we need here in the U.S.! Improvements to law enforcement, government services and the economy. Please keep the $1 billion here in the U.S. There are a few old bridges, highways, water mains, rail lines and other projects right here at home that need to be upgraded. Apparently, Obama administration officials don't drive through the potholes or suffer through the broken water mains that the average U.S. citizen does.
