Americans support legal immigration, not illegal

Commentator Cynthia Rosenberg ("We will always be a nation of immigrants Nov. 1) is almost right. The correct pronouncement is that we are and will always be a nation of legal immigrants.

As Ms. Rosenberg correctly points out, there are many leaders in Washington and state governments such as U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and Gov. Bobby Jindal that have benefited from such immigration policies. But what Ms. Rosenberg and most pro amnesty advocates do not do is separate the issue between legal and illegal immigration when they opine on immigration. And clearly there is a difference that Americans care about.

Americans welcome people from other lands who want to come to the United States to work hard and have a chance at the American dream. But they want them to do it legally. Like their own ancestors did.

When the borders are secured enough to stop illegal intrusions over our borders, require and fully implement the E-Verify system requiring every employer to use before employing anyone, and have a functional oversight on people with travel and employment visas, then the American people will probably support another immigration reform bill that address the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in this country.
