Letter writer Saleema Snow ignores the fact that Maryland law mandates 180 days of school for all students ("Hogan's order ignores low-income kids," Sept. 9).
Gov. Larry Hogan's executive order does not increase the number of days off for these students. It merely transfers them from the excessive number of days off during the school year to the last days of August and sometimes the first days of September.
There should be no additional child care expenses. Most adults, probably including Ms. Snow, never started the school year before Labor Day. Did not she, like most of us, turn out just fine with that schedule?
