Tom Schaller's Oct. 20 column, "The Connie Morella effect," was most interesting. I knew Connie Morella well. She was an English professor at Montgomery College when I was teaching Political Science there. We continued our friendship over the years when she was in Congress and after she was defeated and took an appointment to an ambassadorial position in Europe. She was held in high respect by students, fellow professors and most constituents. She was an effective member of Congress back in the days when Democrats and Republicans tried to get along — even when they disagreed.
I would hope that if Larry Hogan can "pull it off" and become governor, he will meet with Ms. Morella and take her advice. Better yet, I hope he has been in contact with her for a while so that her success, persona and wisdom might rub off on him.
