Gov. Larry Hogan wants to spend $28 million in grant money to study the maglev train ("Hogan goes for a ride," June 7). Is his brain in maglev reverse? This probably will never be built, but let's waste $28 million for a study. I thought he was elected to save money?
The Red and Purple lines are too expensive at $3 billion, but $10 billion to build the maglev is not? The nation needs $2.2 trillion to fix the infrastructure, and that just brings it up to code. Let's use the $28 million to fix what we have. The maglev will make a trip from Baltimore to Washington in 15 minutes. The trains we have now are making the trip in 30-40 minutes. So let's spend $10 billion to save 15-25 minutes? The trains can be updated on our present infrastructure to go faster, so the trip time could be reduced. The maglev cannot use the present infrastructure. We need to start fixing what we have.
