I'm a liberal thinker if you must give it a label, and I don't have great concern over the mandate to start schools after Labor Day. But I find it ironic that schools in Baltimore closed early on Thursday and Friday, and some Baltimore County schools closed altogether on Friday because of the lack of air conditioning.
I guess Gov. Larry Hogan doesn't believe our area is warming, so extending the school year later in June is just fine for him. I'm thinking maybe it's less for the kids and more for the merchants who lose their summer workers before Labor Day, not to mention the vacations that are nixed if you have to send the kids back during August.
I suppose that would explain why he thought it a good idea to go back to building houses with old technology in the septic systems, reversing hard won legislation to protect our Chesapeake Bay and the many rivers in our beautiful state ("The septic backslide," Aug. 23).
Apparently, his retro edicts are supposed to take us back to when America was so great! So what's he doing about the police problem in Baltimore? Not much, it seems. I guess the Wild West method of "shoot first, ask questions later" is just fine with him.
None of that "politically correct" stuff for our governor.
