Letter writer Katherine W. Rylaarsdam laments Gov. Larry Hogan's refusal to release education funds allocated by the Democratic legislature. Unfortunately, neither she nor anyone else has a guarantee that this money would be spent as intended ("Hogan's folly," May 22).
Since only 15 percent of the state budget is spent on schools, why not increase that percentage instead of squeezing the taxpayers for more funds that undoubtedly will be spent elsewhere given the past actions of the Democratic elected officials who profess to care so deeply for our children?
Apparently Mr. Hogan is intelligent enough to recognize how disingenuous the legislature has been in the past, and he is being fiscally responsible for a change. How nice to have an honest grown-up in the governor's mansion.
