How exciting that our new Republican governor is going to bring us Republican-style tax cuts as soon as he gets into office ("Budget likely to dominate otherwise unpredictable session," Jan. 10). I'm sure it will go every bit as well as those tax cuts have panned out for the citizens of Kansas, Wisconsin and Arizona. How is that going for them, by the way?
Oh, right, it's been a disaster. All three states are suffering crushing debt, bleeding red ink and are on the brink of having their credit ratings downgraded. And frantically scrambling to figure out where they can make cuts to services before having to go belly up, like Detroit, but on a much larger scale. Gee, I can hardly wait for all that "prosperity" here.
If only we knew what it would be like if we don't cut taxes. Oh wait, we do. California, that "Greece on the Pacific," finally came to their senses and kicked out those "business friendly" Republicans and raised taxes on the most wealthy and corporations. And what do you know, California's economy is booming. They've rebuilt infrastructure and the social safety net. Tax revenues are surging and the economy is growing. Sadly, just the opposite of what we voted for here in Maryland. I guess we better get used to downgrading our standard of living.
Oh well, who liked prosperity anyway?
