I am quite offended by Gov. Larry Hogan's suggestion that Marylanders should be ashamed of where we live ("How much did Democrats dislike Hogan's speech? A lot," Feb. 4).
Maryland is a well-balanced state across multiple quality of life areas, and it manages a balanced budget every year. I am very proud to be from Maryland where my family has been since the 1600s.
We have one of the top school systems in the country, and we are one of only eight states with a AAA bond rating.
We are recognized as a world leader in environmental protection of the Chesapeake Bay, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce recently ranked us as the best state in the country for entrepreneurship.
In this regard, I also put my money where my mouth is, since I live in Maryland six months of the year and the rest of the time in Nevada, where there is no income tax. Still, I choose to remain a Maryland resident and to pay taxes here.
The only thing I am ashamed of is a Johnny-come-lately politician who as governor now thinks he has some sort of mandate to destroy what Maryland has accomplished.
