I applaud Rep. Andy Harris for supporting a bill to end the brutal slaughter of American horses. All of our legislators should follow his lead in supporting this common sense bill.
Horse slaughter is not only cruel, it is also incredibly wasteful. If horse slaughterhouses were ever allowed to open here it would cost taxpayers millions of dollars a year to oversee inspectors for them.
Congress should not waste money to enable a horrific and unnecessary practice just to give irresponsible horse owners and breeders a dumping ground to shrug their responsibilities.
Mr. Harris did the right thing by supporting the SAFE Act and should be commended.
