Gun control makes us less safe

In the editorial concerning taking the carry permit decisions out of the governor's control, I found one misleading statement ("The erosion of Md. gun laws," March 13) — that state and local law enforcement feel less secure with armed law-abiding citizens. I have found that when asked, the cop on the beat has no problem with that circumstance, knowing he or she can not be in all places at all times.

Maryland's gun laws are feel-good laws. In the minds of those who want more gun control, it just makes sense that if there are fewer guns, then there is less crime. The one problem is that this is not factual since the only people carrying guns in Maryland are criminals. The more concealed carry licenses, the less crime against people. The crime against property goes up, but you are not mugged or robbed at gunpoint. And the big winners are women as the rapes go almost to zero!
