Civilians don't need assault rifles

As a retired Marine Corps officer and a gun owner, I'm adding my voice to those who speak out for responsible gun ownership.

I carried an M-16 in combat in Vietnam and have first-hand experience with its lethal power. I do not believe it is appropriate for private citizens to own assault rifles, and I do not believe that prohibition would inhibit their Second Amendment rights.

We choose many restrictions on individual rights for the common good, and this should be one.
