Many Democrats today seem to be saying that if we only limit the Second Amendment, most shootings will vanish and all will be well in America. Here in Maryland, we have some of the strictest gun laws, and the streets of Baltimore bleed with life's blood. So do the streets of other strong gun law states ("Authorities try to piece together Orlando killer's movements," June 15).
The truth is that guns do not kill on their own. Human minds pull gun triggers. Human minds are influenced by the social values around them. One of the most present social values of our age is the easy killing of a living being in the womb by another human being. This culture of easy disposal of life influences the ready mindset of killing those in the way of what we want.
If the Democrats really want to cut down on killing in our culture, they should support life from conception to natural death. Speaking for myself, I'll accept limits on my gun rights if the Democrats will accept limits on abortion rights. Will they? Lack of such acceptance communicates how political their values truly are.
