Ultimate test of Md.'s new gun law

Letter writer Vincent DeMarco , the president of Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence, firmly supports the new gun law that takes effect Oct. 1 ("Keep guns out of the wrong hands," Aug. 7).

He says many lives will be saved in Maryland after the new law is implemented because the "bad guys" won't be able to get guns, etc.

Mr. DeMarco is also president the Maryland Citizens Health Initiative, the organization that wants to tax cigarettes into the stratosphere in order to keep people from smoking.

It sure makes me sleep better at night knowing that he so concerned about me and my fellow citizens' well-being.

But I'd like to invite Mr. DeMarco to put his money where his mouth is and take a nice, unarmed stroll through Baltimore City around 1 a.m. on a Saturday night to test his theory on the new gun law.

I wonder if he would ever take me up on it.
