Taking away our guns won't make us safer

Letter writer Vince Gardina suggests that "people with guns kill a lot of people" while "people without guns have a hard time killing anyone" ("Let gun owners pay for armed school guards," Dec. 27).

Is he kidding? How many people were killed by people with box cutters? How many did Timothy McVeigh kill without a gun? The list goes on and on.

What rational, intelligent person truly believes that the best way to keep us safe is to take away our ability to defend ourselves?

The old expression is still accurate. "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." Just as a fork doesn't cause obesity and a car doesn't cause accidents.
