Most readers know that The Sun is a liberal-leaning, anti-gun newspaper, but Peter Hermann's recent article takes the cake ("Police weapon traced to killings," Dec. 18). I don't think I've ever read a more agenda-oriented piece. Quotes like "I was shocked when I found out the gun came from Baltimore" are obviously written to make us think of the "Fast and Furious" debacle now embroiling our Justice Department. The killings in Oklahoma, while certainly a tragedy, belong to Oklahoma.
The writer's attempt to link them to Baltimore is a long stretch. If anything, he should have emphasized the part the manufacturer (Glock) played in this story. They evidently took a gun that had been returned to them to repair a defect, and sold it to a gun store which then legally sold it to a customer. The only connection to Baltimore is that the city's police department had been the weapon's original purchaser.
The real question should be how did the police gun end up in the gun store? At least Mr. Hermann did include the quote from the local prosecutor noting that "the Baltimore Police didn't do anything wrong."
