The very last thing our country needs is more gun control laws ("Locking up 'bad guys with guns,'" Oct. 24). Those laws will only affect the legal, conscientious and responsible gun owners, and voting for a candidate who will sponsor and enact even more laws will accomplish nothing except create more government bureaucracy.
We need to vote for the candidates who will actually enforce the existing laws. Candidates who will appoint judges who will hand down substantial jail time to offenders, not just slaps on the wrist; candidates who will support tougher state's attorneys who will vigorously prosecute the offenders; candidates who will support our police who are trying desperately to enforce the existing laws despite serious opposition from all sides.
We don't need to elect candidates who will add to the overwhelming government bureaucracy by enacting more laws. We need to elect candidates who will use the existing laws to protect us from the criminals. We don't need protection from law abiding citizens.
