Some of the facts that have emerged from the death of Freddie Gray ("Injuries in van ride focus of city probe," April 21) are the following:
Mr. Gray was not properly restrained nor was he given appropriate medical attention. These are both the responsibility of the officer who is assigned with driving the vehicle transporting the suspect/subject.
One glaring concern is whether Mr. Gray was deliberately not secured in the police transport vehicle. The injuries he incurred suggest that he was not secured. Other than Mr. Gray's snapped neck, there were no other reported bodily injuries found on him.
The most glaring mistake at the press conference is that Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake did not order an outside, independent investigation of this divisive event. An investigation by the Baltimore City Police Department and City of Baltimore means that the results of the investigation will bear out that the Teflon-drenched cops will again be exonerated of most charges.
There is a semblance of a "thug mentality" among a few Baltimore police officers. I suppose we should gird ourselves when we find how the snake-like cops will wriggle free once more from the jaws of justice.
