Memo to Grasso: We all live in subsidized housing

I was sincerely hoping Anne Arundel County Councilman John Grasso was misquoted in his comments that people who seek government aid in their housing "freeloaders" on the taxpaying public and he would clarify this, but it appears he was unfortunately quoted correctly ("Hogan's fringe flank," Jan. 13).

What Mr. Grasso fails to comprehend is that the largest "subsidized housing" program in the country by far, hundreds of billions of dollars' worth, is the home mortgage interest deduction. Unless he bought his home with 100 percent cash, he also lives in "government-subsidized" housing, like many of us do.
