Gorsuch could fall between Justice Scalia and centrist Justice Kennedy

Although I am thoroughly disgusted by President Donald Trump's actions since he took office, I am also offended by the Democratic senators who plan to obstruct the confirmation of Judge Neil M. Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

If a judge is as well educated and as experienced as this nominee obviously is, then he should be confirmed.

Moreover, Supreme Court justices have a habit of surprising the presidents who appoint them.

Chief Justice Warren Burger was appointed by Richard Nixon, yet Judge Burger led his court to vote unanimously in ordering Mr. Nixon to release his White House tapes.

Chief Justice Earl Warren was appointed President Dwight D. Eisenhower, yet he later stunned Ike by leading the court to unanimously overturn the so-called "separate but equal" doctrine" and outlaw racially segregated public schools in the historic Brown v. Board of Education decision.

Moreover, Chief Justice John Roberts was appointed by President George W. Bush, yet he led his court to uphold the Affordable Care Act.

I would be much more concerned had Mr. Trump appointed a right-wing ideologue like senior White House adviser Stephen Bannon to the Court than a qualified jurist such as Judge Gorsuch.
