In reference to the April 19 article by Lorraine Mirabella about gender-based pay disparities ("Gender-based pay disparities persist in Maryland"): Society is well aware there's a pay gap problem. Now it's time to concentrate on a fix, like pay scales. To fix the pay gap problem, identify the where and why. Does this occur in the government, the private sector or small companies only? And how can this exist when today most jobs/positions have job descriptions with corresponding pay scales?
For example, the government (federal, state, local) plus the private sector in general have established pay scales. The pay scales don't distinguish between men and women. We know the problem, so let's move on to fixing the problem of wage disparity. Society needs to identify the entities that pay men and women differently and demand pay scales be used where feasible.
