As a lifelong resident of Maryland, I find it insulting to see the one-sided hatchet job your paper is trying to perpetrate on Baltimore Police Lt. Victor Gearhart ("The officer's tweets," Jan. 27).
While Mr. Gearhart may be outspoken, he is one of the most genuine, down-to-earth people I have ever met. As a neighbor and friend, he always gives more than he receives and expects nothing in return.
The problems in Baltimore City are numerous, but the police department and its members are not one of them. Yet too many people want only to belittle and criticize the police rather than support and compliment our brave officers.
How anyone can justify allowing people to block traffic or engage in looting and vandalism that infringes on the rights and property of law-abiding citizens is beyond comprehension.
