Parents who think they are doing a good thing by hosting an underage drinking party and taking keys to make sure nobody drives are making a dangerous mistake ("Gansler says he made 'a mistake,'" Oct. 24).
First, it is against the law. Second, did these people ask permission of the parents of all of the kids who were coming to find out if they wanted their kids to be allowed to drink?
Moreover, sexual assaults and physical confrontations are quite possible if not likely outcomes of such events. And finally, teenagers are resourceful: They could have found another a way out of the house and an extra set of keys -- and ended up driving until they killed themselves or someone else.
I would guess that these well-meaning parents would be sued within an inch of insolvency -- and in my opinion rightly so.
