Whether you approve or disapprove of gambling is irrelevant. I want all voters in Maryland to remember that Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. tried to get the state legislature to pass gambling during his term.
Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller and House Speaker Michael E. Busch fought him all the way. Then-Mayor Martin O'Malley professed that gambling would hurt his poorer city constituents. As soon as Mr. O'Malley became governor, it became OK to pass it into law even if it did go to the polls. Why not before?
Governor-elect Larry Hogan will need cooperation from the leaders in the state legislature. They have to pass measures first before any governor can sign them into law.
If wasteful spending is not put to a stop during the Hogan administration, perhaps it's time to elect others to serve in Annapolis ("Hogan plans thank-you tour," Nov. 10). Excessive spending is the cause for unnecessary tax increases.
