I read The Sun's story about the police-involved shooting of Korryn Gaines and how there will be no charges filed against the officers ("No charges filed in Korryn Gaines shooting," Sept. 21).
No surprise there, but what I found interesting was the Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger's claim that "no officer wakes up in this country hoping they're going to use their weapon. They wake up every hoping they can help someone or solve a crime."
That's poppycock and the root of the problem right there: The failure to see or acknowledge the reality that there simply are some officers who can't wait to shoot a black person. They probably go to bed dreaming about it.
Yes, there are some good police. But the bad ones are making all police look bad — and the good ones aren't speaking up.
We must accept the reality that racism is real and that some of those racists have sworn to protect and serve. Officer Friendly has been dead.
