U.S. leaders AWOL at France rally

Today there is much astonishment being expressed on television and radio about our president's lack of attendance at Sunday's solidarity march in France. Not just the president, but no high profile official of our government was present. It seems to me that this is a developing pattern by US officials.

Remember midnight Dec. 31, 1999 at the turnover ceremony of the Panama Canal to the people of Panama? President Clinton did not attend, Vice President Gore refused, Secretary of State Albright had other things to do. This lack of concern was perceived by nearly all in Latin America as a snub to Panama President Mireya Moscoso.
