To frack or 'unfrack?' [Letter]

Your recent editorial wisely observed that "the longer we wait before embracing fracking, the better informed we will be ("Fracking still worrisome," Oct. 7).

The only purpose of extracting natural gas or oil from the Marcellus Shale would be to use it, thus adding more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere and accelerating global warming. That's stupid.

On the other hand, if the governor's advisory panel were considering a new technology of "unfracking," whereby we could bury oil or natural gas in perpetuity in the Marcellus Shale at reasonable cost, I would look forward to a positive report on the wisdom of the process.
