Commentator Sara Buckingham paints a clear picture of the importance of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly food stamps) to America's children ("Cutting SNAP funds hurts children," June 3).
It is outrageous that this program is on the cutting block at a time when there is so much hunger in America. We can each do our part to help end hunger by calling or writing our senators and representatives and asking them to not only protect SNAP but to expand it until hunger in America is ended.
At the same time Congress can work to deal with the underlying causes of hunger in America. Together we can solve this problem.
