It is wrong to take down any flag that men died for while fighting for their beliefs ("Retire the flag," June 23).
One hundred fifty years ago that is what they thought was right. I would suggest that people of color see the Confederate flag today as a symbol of winning their own freedom and not as a sign of their ancestors' slavery.
Instead of attempting to identify with the past let's try to find ways to improve our future. Let's get taxes in Maryland lowered so we can get business back into the state. Lets get the younger population to see they can get out of poverty and succeed if they study and stay away from gangs.
Instead of naming a youth center for Freddie Gray a person with a criminal record, let's name one for a fallen local hero. And let's quit blaming the past for everything that goes wrong today.
