Take down that flag

When my wife and I travel through the South we always have mixed emotions about the Confederate flag. My wife, especially, has a violent dislike for the emblem and what it stands for.

As for myself, until the murder of the nine black church members in Charleston, S.C., I was always amused because the people displaying the flags in effect were publicly admitting that they lost the Civil War.

But now the flag should come down. Dylann Roof, the young white man charged in the massacre, is by age a millennial. Is he embracing the tradition of bigotry with no interest in the future?

If so, South Carolina and other states are encouraging this hateful evil and that is no longer in the least amusing.
