Jacques Kelley has seen something that I missed ("Checking up on Marketplace at Fells Point," Jan. 2).
I see a perverse remake of what was an authentic Fells Point small shop streetscape into something that resembles a White Marsh Mall.
One-time small shops have been converted into Big Box spaces, still mostly unrented behind their poorly reconstructed fronts. Rising above the storefronts, poorly conceived and ugly ship container-like facades destroy what once was an authentic Fells Point skyline. The apartments that are offered for rent by the management come with totally inadequate parking spaces, adding to the already significant parking problems for the small shop owners and residents of Fells Point.
Mr. Kelly rightly recognizes and extols the miniature scale of Lancaster and Shakespeare streets but fails to see there is no miniaturization in the 600 block of South Broadway.
