We were delighted to read The Sun's recent endorsement of the Maryland Education Credit, which rightly noted how beneficial the measure would be to lower and middle-income students attending both public and nonpublic schools ("School aid win-win," March 31).
The added "push" that this legislation has received from Gov. Larry Hogan is a welcome and greatly appreciated addition to the years of advocacy that has gone into promoting this important measure. Additionally, we wish to acknowledge the bill's Senate sponsor, Sen. James "Ed" DeGrange. Senator DeGrange conceived the Maryland Education Credit legislation back in 2006 and has continuously led the effort every year since. It is for this and many other reasons that he was acknowledged by Maryland chapter of the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) with its inaugural Champion of the Education Award in 2014.
Senator DeGrange and Governor Hogan exemplify a sincere and unfailing commitment to all students in Maryland, one that we hope all Maryland legislators will soon emulate by passing the Maryland Education Credit this year.
