I love all the talk about how "awful" Gov. Larry Hogan is because of his proposed cuts to Baltimore City schools ("SRB: On school funding, Baltimore has set the example," Feb. 1).
Several years ago, a report was published (and if I'm not mistaken, it was during Martin O'Malley's reign) that Baltimore City had the highest per student spending in the state. It also had the highest administrative spending per student in the state. That says to me that several "pencil-pusher" positions at the headquarters building could be eliminated and nobody would even notice.
It's high time civic leaders start treating their work budgets the same as they do their home budgets. Look where changes can be made, implement them and stop the "let's just raise taxes to get more revenue" mentality.
