State incentives play a big role in business decisions

Reader Jack Kinstlinger ("Maryland's misleading state greeting," Feb. 13) is apparently unaware that every state government and probably every subdivision in our country employs personnel in an economic development office who are indeed empowered to present adjustments to regulations, favorable tax arrangements, zoning changes and adjustments, as well as certain guarantees, simply to attract businesses to relocate to their area. He states that these things play only a small role. Perhaps he has not seen the national televised economic campaign initiated by the state of New York. It's all about these things.
