Thanks for Dan Morhaim's excellent commentary on the high cost of America's misguided drug policy ("The failed war on drugs continues to amass casualties in Baltimore and beyond," May 21).
As an emergency room physician and a state legislator, he is uniquely positioned to understand how the counterproductive war on drugs causes the very problems that plague Baltimore and other communities.
I hope everyone will heed his call to adopt the approach taken in countries like Portugal and Switzerland, where alternative strategies have reduced drug use and the dangerous behaviors it fosters.
