In Howard, not all protests are heard

The Sun relates that Clarksville residents protested a proposed doggy daycare center in their community because they didn't want the extra traffic and barking dogs ("Zoning authority denies Manor Lane dog daycare request," Jan. 27). The opponents' efforts resulted in the denial of the facility.

Here in Southeastern Howard County, we protest gridlock traffic, overcrowded schools, excessive residential density, panhandlers, the lack of a thriving commercial district and now a complex for the chronically homeless with severe mental illness or substance abuse issues, yet we continue to be ignored. Perhaps you can understand why we strongly feel the need to advocate for our community and quality of life for our families for real, serious, significant issues.

Please give our concerns the attention they deserve — because I'd gladly accept a doggy daycare center.
