It takes more than money to care for vulnerable children and adults

I read with concern your article on the plight of the vulnerable children in group homes around the state ("Troubles hit Maryland group home for disabled children," Oct. 18).

As you noted, many of the counselors hired to take care of these children are poorly paid. But that shouldn't be a reason to abuse these children. Many of the operators of group homes do not have the qualifications to care for vulnerable children or adults.

All they are after is the money. It takes someone who really cares to work with vulnerable individuals.
