The Sun's front page article on the danger of prediabetes is revealing for an even more dangerous and pervasive problem with health care than the disease it discusses — hyperbole and misinformation by the press ("Study points to early diagnosis, treatment," May 23).
With a handful of patients studied in a lab, the Sun leaped to grand conclusion that millions of Americans need to be screened for a disease we are not sure even exists and whose treatment is not proven to work. We know obesity and lack of exercise is dangerous, but we don't need yet another disease label tossed onto someone's lap to prove that point.
It is time we use real data and common sense to improve our health rather than relying on sensationalist articles in the press.
