Letter from Pittsburgh: Baltimore has died

My condolences to Maryland on the death of Baltimore. I am truly saddened (really). I have enjoyed visiting my relatives there.

I had initially thought of helping revive her by giving you details of the many methods I have recently read that would have assisted in her recovery. Such as articles in the Wall Street Journal (related to education), the revival of Pittsburgh (after the steel industry amputation) and the struggles of Dr. Ben Carson (African-American and 2016 presidential candidate) to become a renowned neurosurgeon.

However, I have come to the conclusion after reviewing her vital signs (burning down her own new housing, allowing the cancer of drugs to pervade her, her unwillingness to exert the effort to take the medication necessary to help, her use of unfamiliar and slurred words so we cannot communicate with her and she herself administering too quickly an overdose of charges against those trying to help her) that here is no hope ("Justice Department to launch full-scale investigation of Baltimore police, sources say," May 8).

I'm sorry to say I won't be able to attend her funeral.
