As a frequent traveler, I read with interest: "10 disaster lessons for cruise travelers" (Jan. 22). Unfortunately, the article left out a key lesson: Whenever you travel, always carry a pocket flashlight with fresh batteries with you at all times.
As happened on the Costa Concordia, and as also frequently occurs on planes and trains after crashes, typically, the first thing that happens is that the lights go out. A pocket flashlight will help you find a way out, and most importantly, if you are injured or pinned down by debris, its signal will alert rescuers to your whereabouts.
