In her letter to the editor, Maryland Environmental Health Network Director Rebecca Ruggles suggested that we no longer transport crude oil by rail due to the potential danger of accidents ("Put the brake on oil-laden trains," March 21). Environmentalists also do not want oil shipped by pipeline and they applauded President Barack Obama's veto of the Keystone XL oil pipeline project.
A caravan of trucks hauling the oil would not be very efficient and simply shift the risk of potentially deadly accidents from the rails onto our already overcrowded highways. How then are we supposed to transport the crude oil that Ms. Ruggles and the other environmentalists require to run their cars, heat their homes and create the electricity that feeds their houses?
Perhaps we should form a bucket-line and pass the oil on by hand.
