Baltimore is bleeding

The protesters, punks, thugs, demonstrators, rioters, arsonists, rampaging mobs, police attackers, lawless crowds, looters, shooters, drug addicts and sellers and criminals in general did not destroy Baltimore — they ripped the heart out of the city is what they did.

A beautiful historical city has now become a den of criminals now dedicated to making Baltimore bleed ("Police commissioner defends patrol strategy amid violence," June 2). They are staining the streets of Baltimore with the blood of black residents. Some of them bleed and die on the spot where they were shot. Others die in area hospitals. And still others end up handicapped for life.

But why the shootings and killings? Are they angry at each other? Surely not at the police because they are not around anymore. Are they shooting and killing for the pleasure of seeing their black brothers go down in a pool of blood? Where are the modern cinematographers with their instant cell phone cameras? How come they don't record the black shootings and killings? Is it because there is no market for the third rate videos? This is a validation of what the former president impeached for lying said: "What is sometimes isn't."

Did he mean to say that what you see sometimes is not real, like the Michael Brown shooting by a police officer who was cleared by all investigators including the U.S. Department of Justice? The bottom line here is that the "gentle giant" was not so gentle after all.

Is Baltimore now evolving to become the crime capital of the United States? It could become that very quickly because the city is now rudderless. Pretty soon, the criminal element will be erecting a 20 foot bronze statue of Freddie Gray with the federal government chipping in for 99 percent of the cost.

It may be too late to save Baltimore. The criminals have ripped the city's heart out.
