My favorite was about the cicadas in Maryland. He wrote words in such a way that I heard his Baltimore dialect, heard his belly laugh, and felt his compassion. So for over 27 years, I have read his column. Once he moved back to the sports pages, I still read his witty perspective — not always understanding the details of the sport — but I grasped his message. Yep, I am a Raven's fan. A few years ago, I moved to Baltimore County from the city. On a spring walk in the neighborhood, I passed this jovial, friendly man and exchanged greetings. As the weeks passed on my walk, I kept thinking that I know this fellow from somewhere. Finally, I made the connection.
