In your editorial, "The McDonald's Trap" (April 19), you pose the question, "Is Baltimore County providing residents the services they desire and doing it well?" As a Baltimore County resident, my answer is a resounding "yes."
Our streets are paved, trash is collected and, according to a recent article in The Sun, of like-sized jurisdictions, only Baltimore City spends more money for education per student than Baltimore County does. That County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and the County Council have been able to provide these services without an increase in property tax or the "piggyback" income tax rate is a definite plus and not a minus as your editorial insinuates.
The fact that government can tax more doesn't mean that it should. For that reason, I'm grateful that the county budget is in the hands of Mr. Kamenetz and the County Council and not The Sun's editorial board.
