As head of the Comcast region serving Baltimore City, I would like to address and correct inaccuracies about our local offerings in this paper's recent commentary entitled "Faster, cheaper, better broadband in Baltimore" (June 30). Comcast operates in a highly competitive marketplace, and our Baltimore City customers already receive our fastest high-speed Internet and advanced video, voice and smart home technologies. We deliver the same speeds in Baltimore City today as we do across other parts of Maryland, with the same competitive standalone Internet prices and special bundled packages and promotions.
When it comes to broadband, Comcast continues to deliver the fastest Internet speeds to the most homes and is also providing the fastest in-home WiFi with our latest Xfinity Wireless Gateway, an all-in-one device that delivers reliably fast and secure speeds with the most coverage in the home so family and friends can get online and do more with all their devices.
We understand customers have different needs, so we offer a selection of speed tiers for residential customers — consistent across the Baltimore market, including Baltimore City — ranging from our 3 Mbps Economy Plus service to our Extreme 505 Mbps service for the fastest download speeds available. In addition, addressing the digital divide head-on has long been a priority of our company, and earlier this year we announced the indefinite extension of Comcast's Internet Essentials program, the nation's largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program offering discounted Internet service, computers and free digital literacy training.
In April, we increased the speeds of two of our Xfinity Internet tiers at no additional cost to customers, the 13th speed increase in the past 12 years. Our Blast tier now offers speeds up to 105 Mbps (formerly 50 Mbps) and the Extreme tier is 150 Mpbs (formerly 105 Mbps).
Whether you are a small-to-medium size business or a large enterprise, Comcast provides advanced video, voice and Internet technologies for cost-effective, simplified communications management through an advanced network that is backed by 24/7 technical support.
Comcast Business provides scalable, high-capacity Internet service in Baltimore that meets organizations' current needs and can grow to meet future needs with speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps and the benefits of WiFi solutions.
Baltimore continues to be among the first markets in the country to receive new products and services, as evidenced by the recent launch of the X1 DVR with cloud technology and live in-home streaming TV as part of Comcast's next-generation TV platform — the X1 entertainment operating system.
These offerings underscore Comcast's ongoing commitment to provide the most innovative products and services to Baltimore City and across the Baltimore market.
