Hillary Clinton made her bed by being so secretive, so of course now people are going to wonder whether she is lying about her health ("Hillary Clinton says she didn't think pneumonia was 'that big a deal,'" Sept. 13).
Is she sicker than the excuses she has given the public? The obvious stalling of the press for hours after her "collapse" gives all that is needed to run wild with sickness scenarios.
Or is this more than mere sickness? Does Ms. Clinton have a substance abuse problem? Is this a political ploy to get her out of the debates with Donald Trump? She has avoided the press and difficult questions for so long one could imagine that being true.
The point is that since she, her husband and their administrations have parsed the truth into mutilated manipulations of facts, there is no truth by which to judge anything that comes from their mouths. The public is free to allow their imaginations to run wild, and they will.
My hope would be that if this is the September bullet for her campaign, maybe other Democrats and Republicans will move a little more toward telling the public the truth. After all, you don't have to tell more lies to defend the truth.
