Sanders supporters enable Trump

I understand Doris Rausch's frustration with candidate Hillary Clinton ("Why I'm sticking with Bernie," July 25). In the best cases, presidential elections present us with a choice of who to vote for, not against. But this year is different — there are only candidates to vote against and we can pick only one.

Remember that old saw about those who forget the lessons of history? In the 2000 election, there was a relatively strong third-party showing for Ralph Nader. To this day, Naderites still strongly defend the decision to throw away their votes and will deny they got George W. Bush elected. They're wrong. Mr. Bush beat Al Gore by the sharpest of razor-thin margins — .9 percent of the Electoral College. Every vote for Ralph was a vote for W.

Don't like Ms. Clinton? Yeah, I'm there with you. Voting for Sen. Bernie Sanders as an act of defiance? Then enjoy the Donald Trump administration. I'm sure you'll love it. It's gonna be "yuge."
