Finally, business sense comes to City Hall ("City to cut some irksome business fees," Jan. 20).
I've heard of nuisance fees before, but I never realized the breadth of their "irksomeness." For a city claiming to encourage business, this nonsense boggles the mind.
Why charge for amenities like flower boxes, outdoor lights, awnings, wheelchair ramps, security cameras and bike racks? There's even a fee for fire escapes! What are they smoking at 100 N. Holliday?
As a downtown shopper, I'm tired of watching stores and services depart for the county. If the mayor wants to attract new city residents, she must recognize our needs. "Charm City" has a glut of bars, restaurants, nail salons and fast-food places, but not the everyday basics.
Perhaps City Hall's decision to get rid of some fees were thanks to the strong political wind wafting in from Annapolis — a brisk breeze called "the Hogan."
