If charter schools are being so "hampered" by Maryland's charter school law, why are schools in our state consistently ranked among the best in the nation ("New effort underway to change Maryland charter schools law," Jan. 20)?
It seems to me that the push for more charter schools with greater authority to set teacher salaries and work conditions is nothing but a power grab by the private sector bent on busting the powerful teachers union.
There is an old adage that seems to apply to the current state of our school system: If it isn't broke, don't fix it.
